I am a complete PR novice. Is this course for me?

If you don’t know anything about PR, this course is perfect for you! It walks you through, step-by-step, exactly what PR is, why you NEED to harness it for your business, and HOW to go about it.

As it’s a complete blueprint, broken down into digestible chunks, you don’t need any prior knowledge of PR, as it’s all laid out for you.

I don’t have time to commit to doing PR for my business regularly, so would this course be of use to me?

If you don’t think you’ll be able to generate great coverage on a regular basis, then this course is an ideal option for your business. You see, if you were to hire somebody to do your PR for you, whether it’s an agency, freelancer, or member of staff, you’d have to commit to a rolling monthly retainer, or staff fees. Most agencies (including my own) won’t do one-off, or ad-hoc PR projects. So this would be a bigger long-term commitment.

However, if you learn how to do your own PR, you will have full control of how much or little PR you do, so you can ramp up activity around a launch or event, and ease off when it suits your business. The only bit of advice would be to make sure you try and keep some momentum going, as you wouldn’t want your new-found PR skills to go to waste!

Who isn’t this course suitable for?

If you feel that you have more budget than time, and couldn’t possibly learn a new skill, then this course may not be for you. While it saves you a huge amount of time by preventing you from making bad pitches to the media or writing press releases that won’t work, you DO need to put some work in on your part. You will need to set some time aside to take the learnings, find a story in your business and craft it for the media.

So if you have no intention to do your own PR, and would rather hire someone to do it for you, then perhaps this course isn’t for you. Instead you may want to look at getting someone to do PR for you. But be aware, this is a much bigger financial commitment.

How much can I expect to save on PR/advertising fees by doing this course?

It’s difficult to put a number on savings, but look at it this way… a single one-off advert in your local newspaper would cost more than this course. If you were using a PR agency, you could be spending thousands of pounds per month. With this course you pay a one-off fee. So if you get one piece of coverage after taking this course, it’s paid for itself.

How is PR different from advertising?

Advertising is when you pay a media outlet to promote something. So as a business, you are literally paying per column inch, or page impression, to be featured in a certain outlet. It is very obviously a paid for feature, and your audience knows this.

Good PR is earned through credibility, not cash. A story is pitched to a media outlet, and if it’s interesting or relevant enough, it will get featured. A PR story looks like just another article in a newspaper, magazine or website, and sounds like just another story on the radio. So a reader or listener will be less cynical to PR, and will view it with more interest. Whereas adverts can often be glossed over.

No, this course is universal, and is applicable to businesses across the globe, whether you’re in Dubai, Denmark or Delhi. This is because the basic principles of PR, which is story-finding, storytelling and pitching, remain the same wherever you are in the world. Journalism and news principles are global and transferable, as is good PR.

I work full time on my business. How long would it take for me to complete this course?

The aim of this course isn’t to make you an overnight PR guru, it’s to teach you how to do great PR for YOUR business. Most courses involve taking days out of your business to learn a new skill. But as this course is broken down into bite-sized chunks, you can go through it at your pace, when you have the time. So it is truly a course that works around your business.
